Prize winner at a number of international organ competitions (among others at the Franz-Liszt-Competition Budapest), he performs in concert throughout Europe and Asia and teaches within the framework of various master classes (among others at the Royal Academy of Music London).
He is author of a number of transcriptions for organ of orchestral and piano music, has performed for radio and television and has made many recordings.
Helmut Deutsch is a jury member at various international competitions and is professor of organ music at the University of Music at Freiburg (Germany).

Improvisation II is a live recording of a Concert on 22nd of May 2004 in the Lutheran parish centre Kirchzarten, Improvisationen III - IV are preliminary studies to this concert.
The present version of "Reflexive Surface" is a digital processing of a video movie (Hi8) from 1991. The film music was composed in 1996 and extended to a longer version in 2001. In the course of a renewed evaluation of the footage additional scenes were inserted. The original formal character of the music remained unchanged as a concert version. Envolving the analogue video footing for the digital processing the music for the film finally became a film for the music, in which the scene sequences are completely subordinated to the musical events.
This movie is about reflexes on the water surface of a pond, arranged to sequences of abstract back light photos, as a picture puzzle of spatial flat areas and mirrorings on a surface of standing waters, as interaction of surface structures and reflected light, as a temporarily bluring of layers, such as a quiet motion of the surface caused by a sudden draft or dropping leaves. The music is atmospherically tracing the picture sequences of the film, reacting to every frizzing of the water surface, ceding itself to moments of silence and motionlessness, mist and glimmering air. This will also come about responding musical structures, such as figurative elements grouped arround central mirror axles, sustained sound plains, which seemingly gliding in an endless stream and come to a standstill again. Only in the last third of the piece a sudden beat happened, possibly as a result of a branch fallen into the water, which initiates a concentric wave mouvement to the dead still water surfaces.
The formal structure of the music is cyclical and after passing several spatial layers it returns to the beginning as its origin.

This video movie is the imaging realisation of a chamber music composition from 1997 as a further development of sound plain variations. The music is inspired by a story of E. A. Poe and describes a riverscape as a location of oppressive and benighted wasteland. Music and film scenes are recreating the mouvement of gliding water, the mirrors and reflexes of dead plants and rotting vegetation, the changes of idleness, restlessness, violent water mouvements and thunderbolts, by the end sinking back into complete silence.
